Done with 1st Semester!

Hello!
So I am proud to say that I have officially finished my first semester at Ringling! I haven't posted at all in the last month or so because I have been so busy trying to finish up all of my projects! But, all that means that I have more than a few things to post on here, both school related and not!

In my 3D class we had to create 3D cubes, and make patterns out of them using SketchUp. They came out really cool! We then printed the layouts and constructed the cubes which were then put into these patterns.

In my 2D design class we had to create a mask using Adobe Illustrator! I am really happy with mine.

So that's it with the school projects! Overall I had a successful semester, and I can't wait for next semester.

The following pieces are just things that I either did for myself or other people, or stuff I thought you all would enjoy.

This is a piece that I did for an entertainer in Sarasota. He asked me to take his picture and do whatever I wanted to it so I used photoshop to individually create shapes of color to create him. The bottom is the original picture, and I used the dropper tool to pick up the different shades of skin and make the shapes.

I made this just for myself. It's King Tut's mummy mask wearing a black skeleton bandana. I used the same technique as the picture above! Both of these took a few days.

In my 2D classroom, we had big rolls of white paper laid down on the tables, so it shouldn't be a surprise that a bunch of art students in many different classes doodled all over them.

My best friend Asher who is a gifted artist, is also AMAZING at making his own muppets! This is one of his, that I had the pleasure of meeting/playing with. Meet Merlin!

And lastly, I obviously found time to go get my puppy fix!!....And go to Disney World!!
hey jen

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this! I know it has been a super long time since I last posted (sorry Mom /John and David) and I hope you are all having a great holiday season! I will post more when my next semester starts! xo

A Little Late!

Hello!
It has been a couple weeks since I have posted! But I have been trying to let stuff accumulate to show. Now I am watching Julie & Julia, while procrastinating writing this, a scholarship letter, and doing my 4D homework. In Julie & Julia, Julie (Amy Adams) creates a blog to keep track of herself as she attempts to 524 recipes in 365 days. I have only written a few posts and this movie is making me feel so guilty about not writing, I mean she is on top of her stuff! So now I have to be on top of mine. There has just been soooo much to do and it always seems like so little time!

So in the past few weeks, I have completed a 3D wire sculpture, my video that corresponds to the song in the previous post, and started playing around with Adobe After Affects in preparation for the next upcoming project.

The first thing I have to show is my sculpture! It had to be a continuous line and had to be an animal so I chose a tiger.

My teacher really liked it, and it was chosen to be out in the hallway for the parent's weekend presentation!!!!!

The next thing is the video. Now BEWARE it is a little disturbing. That is the effect that I was going for, but if you are easily disgusted then do not watch it, haha.

These next two are explorations in Adobe's After Effects, and the first was to show a "transition between two opposites," and the second is a "message." And let me just say ahead of time that the "message" is NOT true. I am not.

The next project we are doing is redoing a movie or tv show's opening title sequence. I will be redoing The Silence of the Lambs.
The opening credits are already pretty bad, a sans serif font with a harsh white outline.....

I am so excited because this is what I want to do for a career, so I better do well on this. I am debating asking for Howard Shore's permission to use the actual music from the opening or not. I think that it would make the project really special, but I am also wondering if they would want to see the finished product!!!! Ahh...I am not sure.
I am thinking for my idea, (if you have seen the movie) that I am going to mainly use the Death's-Head Hawks Moth, and have dozens of them fly around and form objects that have to do with the movie and the letters. So i will post more about it next week I promise! I will stop procrastinating.

It is parents weekend this weekend so this time tomorrow night I will be with BOTH of my parents!!!!!

I am so excited!!!!
Also I did find sometime to myself over these past few weeks and decided to go out and be social! So I went night fishing at the local beach and caught one!

And also saw dozens of stingrays and something very large in the water...I have to get used to the fact that this is Florida and there are scary things swimming around.

So thanks for taking the time to read this all, and looking at my stuff! I apologize for having to click on the youtube links, for some reason the video didn't just appear on the blog this time ):    I hope you all have a great week!

P.S.
         HELLOOOO JEN FERGUSON :)

Week 3!

Good afternoon!
This week has flown by, and had both its ups and downs. But school-wise, it has been fantastic! And my mom is coming on wednesday! Not for a super awesome reason, but she is coming anyway!! Yay!

So this week I have a few things to show, both school related and personal, as promised!
First, for 2D Design I had to draw the shape of an animal using only hands. I picked a Lion, Squid, and Flamingo:

For the final drawing I am going to choose the Flamingo! My teacher really liked my drawings and brought them to her department meeting!

For my 4D, we had to make a song! I decided to make mine really creepy, and it has 3 distinct parts. The whole feeling is to be "inside the mind of a killer." The beginning is the "stalking/hunting' part, the middle is the "killing" part, and the end is where he "gets caught." The photo is one that I found on Flickr, I couldn't upload a song to YouTube without video content so I had to choose something.

The photo is "Fog" by Chrismatos.

Lastly, I did go to puppy town! So what I have to show is my two new friends!

SO CUTE!
Next week I will hopefully have some video footage to go along with my song! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend/week!

Week 2!

Hello All!
What a week! I have to say that this is the first stressful week that I have had here. I think for a few days I went insane...

....yeah pretty much. I literally had assignments on top of assignments! I knew that it would happen, they basically warned us in the acceptance package. But, the good news is that I finished all of them on time. PHEW! For the stop motion GIFs, my professor said that we all had to redo them, so that was a struggle. Instead of having a week, he gave us 3 days! And then my 3D and 2D profs just piled on the homework, but I handled it. Also along with having 8,000,000 assignments to do, I also had a stomach infection BUT I think I am finally in the clear. I don't have much to show you this week....but I do have a few things!
It was 9/11 this week, so my school made a memorial and put it up on the deck for everyone to see:
It was really sad, a bunch of people wrote their memories of that day, or a few words to the people who were lost. The memorial made me feel proud to go to a school that remembers that tragic day in a really understated and classy (and artsy) way.

So for art, I have three things.
1.) I drew some princesses. I love Disney, and my two roommates Sam and Sarah (psst Hi)

are going to work there one day. We all went to Magic Kingdom two weeks ago and I was so excited that I had to draw:

Yep. Ariel I think is the better one of the three.....(Pocahontas looks like she's having a great time...). And Belle, well it was the first time that I drew her so practice makes perfect.

2.) This is my revised airplane GIF! It is slower than the first, and instead of taking off and landing, it is just constantly flying:

And 3.) This is a drawing I had to do for 2D. We had an image (Audrey) and we had to draw it upside down:
The initials on the left are from people in my class who thought mine was one of the best!!!! THAT WAS SO EXCITING AND NICE!!!!! I am really enjoying school, even with the huge workload, and can't wait to get started on my next 4D project. We have to pair music and video together to create moods, and one of the examples to work from (or just to get ideas from) was the opening credits from
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo:

SO COOL. That is exactly what I want to do when I am older. I want to be the person who makes the opening credits. It is amazing how they matched the images and videos to the beats in the music. It really is inspirational.
Tonight I am going to PuppyTown: a place where you sit down in a pen and they put puppies in there with you and you get to play with them...

Who knew that places like this existed? WHY ISN'T THERE A 10 MILE LINE TO GET IN EVERYDAY?! I can't wait. I promise next week I will do some random sketching so I can hopefully put more of my artwork on this.
Thanks for reading! Have a good week! xo

Oh, and to my sister Payson....HAPPY BIRTHDAY I LOVE YOU! I hope you have a great birthday and that your present from me makes you look like this:

First Post!

Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog! I am new to this so it is kind of different. For those of you who don't know, my name is Hannah and I am a freshman at Ringling College of Art and Design! I am majoring in motion design (it's sort of like graphic design and computer animation rolled into one). I started three weeks ago and so far I have improved and learned so much. I have made such great friends and already can't imagine my life without them.
I will post every week with an update about what is going on, and I will include projects that I have completed!
So I don't have much to show you right at the moment, most of my work has been turned in, but I do have a few things!
I did this assignment for my 2D Drawing & Design class. Right now we are learning about shapes and line quality, along with scale and proportion:
This frog was also done in my 2D Drawing & Design class. We focused on basic shapes and then went in with darker lines to accentuate the figure:
For my 4D Design class we had to create 3 animated GIFs. We were only allowed to have 15 frames so that is why it is so fast! I only have one to show right now, so this will have to do, it's an airplane  taking off and flying above the clouds and then landing:
Last but not least I had to do a photo shoot of an interesting object so I chose a Barbie that I had made for a friend (Shout out to my darling Asher!). I had to take photos of her in all different angles, and this is one:
(Yes I know, so creepy).
I will upload more by the end of next week when I get more stuff back from my teachers! Now I am off to the photo studio to shoot my other GIFs and edit them for tomorrow mornings class!
Have a fabulous day (:
