Sophomore Year is a Go!

Hello!
It has been so long since I have posted (I'm sorry). So try to relax while I overload my page with art that I have done this summer and projects that I have done so far this semester!

This summer was so short and not very relaxing. Working two jobs really kept me busy, but I still found time to make some stuff!

These are only some of the things I made this summer, a lot of them flew out the door before I got a chance to photograph them! Sad mistake!

This crab is now on a doorstep the President Bush's compound in Kennebunkport.

I recently sold this lobster rock to Mrs. Bush herself! It sold while I was here at school, and she was so kind and sent me a letter!

These are just random pieces of art that I did over the summer!

Some Disney/Pixar icons
 A birthday card for Mom

A pattern that I made for my 2D design book from last year!

So this year I have two on campus jobs, and one of them required me to make a business card. I posted all of the ones that I made on Facebook, and this style got the majority of the votes! There was another style that also got a lot of likes, but it had gold stripes and I wasn't sure how well that would print.

This year my classes are: Animation, Design, and Concept. For Design we are learning how to make successful style frames for Nike shoes. These are the ones that I have handed in so far. All are hand drawn on a cintiq. This project is ongoing, so I will have more to post later.

For animation, we have been refreshing our Adobe After Effects skills by doing basic animations such as the ball bounce and stagger. These are what I submitted for those (ps sorry about the video quality, YouTube has been giving me some attitude lately):

My homework load has been crazy so far, and we are only 3.5 weeks in! However, I have found time to go to Disney and buy myself a season pass!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I promise I will try to upload more often! (:

First Post of Second Semester!

Hello All!

This semester has been so busy and full of projects that I haven't had time to update this until now, but that means that I have a lot to share!

The classes that I have this semester are 2D Design, 3D Design, and Animation Techniques.

In 2D design, we have had two projects so far, and are starting our third.
The first project was to create a vector image on Adobe Illustrator using shapes. I chose to do a chandelier!

The next project was to take colors from our hometown/area code and make an interesting composition using the colors and trapped spaces of the numbers. My area code is 207, and I used these colors from pictures taken around southern Maine to represent it!

These three are part of my final...

But this one is my favorite and the one that I handed in!

(I apologize for the pixelation, it wouldn't let me upload the larger pictures)

The project that we are working now is to make a a map with our own icons inspired by the Art Deco period. We had to do research and make our own on Illustrator, and these are what I made! I really like how they turned out.

Now we have to put them on a line to show points on a map, and these are the three that I chose!
Then I chose a color scheme, added the text, and then created a pattern for the background!

This is the final one, and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. These next photos are from our next (and last) project for 2D. We are creating a book that has everything that we've done so far this year, so we have to create covers for the book. The first one is the one that everyone chose. I still have to make changes but I like how it's coming along.

For my 3D class, I made a stool out of cardboard that can support my friend Asher!

We then had a product design project where we had to create a product that isn't out there yet. I chose to make a "Time Out Pal;" a stuffed animal with a timer in it's stomach to keep the time while the child is in time out. My prototype was a stuffed bear, and I put a basic timer in his stomach:
My final product was a Giraffe and I painted the timer blue, and changed the timing so that the max time was 25 minutes instead of 60.
We had to create packaging for it so I drew a bear, giraffe and an elephant on Illustrator to show the different "pals" that are available.

We also had to do a quick Adobe Illustrator tutorial, so I chose to do a modern looking info graphic on plastics in the ocean!
For Animation Techniques we re-did a stop motion SyFy channel logo using an alien and a sea monster silhouette.
This is my final piece!

I only have two weeks left for school and in 2D we are finishing up the books, in 3D we are creating clothing out of paper, and for Stop Motion (Animation Techniques) we are doing a 3D dance party with armatures!

Some other stuff that I have been doing is just random doodling:

Going to Puppy town

And meeting Luke Wilson!!!!

I know that it has been so long since I last posted so thanks so much for taking the time to read this and when the semester ends I'll add my final pieces! Have a great weekend!

Done with 1st Semester!

Hello!
So I am proud to say that I have officially finished my first semester at Ringling! I haven't posted at all in the last month or so because I have been so busy trying to finish up all of my projects! But, all that means that I have more than a few things to post on here, both school related and not!

In my 3D class we had to create 3D cubes, and make patterns out of them using SketchUp. They came out really cool! We then printed the layouts and constructed the cubes which were then put into these patterns.

In my 2D design class we had to create a mask using Adobe Illustrator! I am really happy with mine.

So that's it with the school projects! Overall I had a successful semester, and I can't wait for next semester.

The following pieces are just things that I either did for myself or other people, or stuff I thought you all would enjoy.

This is a piece that I did for an entertainer in Sarasota. He asked me to take his picture and do whatever I wanted to it so I used photoshop to individually create shapes of color to create him. The bottom is the original picture, and I used the dropper tool to pick up the different shades of skin and make the shapes.

I made this just for myself. It's King Tut's mummy mask wearing a black skeleton bandana. I used the same technique as the picture above! Both of these took a few days.

In my 2D classroom, we had big rolls of white paper laid down on the tables, so it shouldn't be a surprise that a bunch of art students in many different classes doodled all over them.

My best friend Asher who is a gifted artist, is also AMAZING at making his own muppets! This is one of his, that I had the pleasure of meeting/playing with. Meet Merlin!

And lastly, I obviously found time to go get my puppy fix!!....And go to Disney World!!
hey jen

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this! I know it has been a super long time since I last posted (sorry Mom /John and David) and I hope you are all having a great holiday season! I will post more when my next semester starts! xo
